Third-Party Services & Data Sharing

🔴 CRITICAL: Your Messages Are Sent to OpenAI

When you use the Legal Info Assistant chat feature, your messages are transmitted to OpenAI Inc., a third-party company, for processing through their ChatGPT API. This happens for ALL users, whether signed in or using the app as a guest.

Before you can send your first message, you will be shown a consent dialog that explains this data sharing. You must click "I Understand" to proceed.

OpenAI (ChatGPT API)

  • What is shared: Your chat messages (questions you ask) and conversation context (previous messages in the conversation)
  • Purpose: To generate educational legal information responses using artificial intelligence
  • When it's shared: Every time you send a message in the Legal Info Assistant chat
  • Data retention by OpenAI: OpenAI may retain your data according to their privacy policy. As of our last review, OpenAI states they do not use API data to train their models, but they may retain data for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring

  • Maintains SOC 2 Type II compliance certification
  • Adheres to GDPR, CCPA, and other major privacy regulations
  • Provides transparent data retention and deletion policies
  • Implements robust security measures including access controls, monitoring, and incident response

We continuously monitor OpenAI's privacy practices to ensure ongoing compliance with our standards and your privacy rights.

Your Consent is Required

  • Your messages being sent to OpenAI's servers
  • OpenAI processing your data according to their privacy policy
  • The potential retention of your data by OpenAI
  • Your chat history being saved to your account (if signed in)
